Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals with Shipley are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement provided at the time of booking confirmation or upon vehicle pickup. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Shipley Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may vary depending on the vehicle type. Drivers under 25 may incur additional charges. A valid driving license suitable for the vehicle category is required, along with proof of current address and identification. Valid payment information and a security deposit are also necessary, as well as any other requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments Guide
- Reservations can be made through our website, by telephone, or directly at our Shipley office. A deposit may be required to confirm your booking. The total payment, along with a security deposit, is usually required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure transactions through trusted payment processors.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, a thorough inspection is required to identify and report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. The vehicle should be returned in the same condition as it was collected, with the allowance for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. It is important to return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will apply if it is returned with less fuel. Late returns may incur additional charges, so please notify us as soon as possible if you anticipate any delays. You are responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that occur during the rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Overview
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance coverage. Detailed information regarding coverage and excess amounts can be found in your Rental Agreement. Options for additional insurance may be available, which can help mitigate your financial responsibility. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless additional coverage is obtained. Any damages resulting from negligence, improper use, or violation of these Terms remain your responsibility, irrespective of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on your booking type and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle may not be used for any illegal activities, including but not limited to racing, rallying, or off-road driving. Transporting hazardous materials is strictly prohibited. Additionally, sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not permitted. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, exceeding passenger or weight limits, and operating outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior authorization are also violations of our terms.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Shipley Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, nor for losses related to profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount you paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liabilities for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, with any disputes resolved solely in their courts.
